Julie Goodnight, nationally renowned equine clinician and recently named official spokeswoman for the Certified Horsemanship Association, will headline as the keynote clinician for the 2008 Black Hills Horse Expo, set for March 8 and 9 at Pennington County Event Center in Rapid City.
Goodnight has been a full-time equine professional for more than 25 years, with a varied background including dressage and jumping, racing, reining, colt starting and wilderness riding.
Goodnight is known for her upbeat and logical style of teaching and her ability to bridge natural horsemanship techniques with the principles of classical riding. She says her teachings are focused on finding success and improvement for each and every horse and rider by developing a deeper understanding of the horse and riding skills that lead to a balanced and rhythmic rider and a light and responsive horse.
She spends much of the year on the road conducting horsemanship clinics and is a frequent speaker at clinics, conferences and horse fairs nationwide. Goodnight's training and teaching techniques are frequent features of Western Horseman, Equus, The Trails Less Traveled and The Instructor magazines. Horse Master, a makeover-style reality show starring Julie, made its television debut in January.
The Black Hills Horse Expo is a benefit for the Northern Hills Area Court Appointed Special Advocate Program. The program trains local community members to advocate in court on behalf of abused and neglected children.
Sponsors of this year's event include Dakota Hills Veterinary Clinic, Today's Horse, Mid-American Horse Exchange, The Wrangler Horse & Rodeo News, Western Web Technologies, Silverado and Franklin Gaming, Blake's Trailer Sales and Repair, The Black Hills Pioneer, KDSJ, Woody's Feeds, Tri-State Livestock News and First Western Bank.
